I recently had the pleasure of seeing the movie "Scratch" http://www.scratchmovie.com/ The films covers the history of Hip-Hop from the early 70s to just a few years ago. Kept waiting to see someone cite Kraftwerk as an influence, but no show. I highly reccomend this movie if it's showing your town. Nat Somewhere in Kansas, USA
Hello fellow Kraftwerk admirers, I would like to weigh in. Recently, here in Detroit, we had our annual Electronic Music Festival. I always tell people that you cannot mention electronic music without mentioning Kraftwerk. That's like talking Funk without mentioning George Clinton. Does anybody know how to contact Kraftwerk? I would like to see if we can book them for next year's festival. That would be too awesome! There are many Kraftwerk fans in Detroit, thanks to the Electricfying Mojo ( A popular Detroit DJ in the '70's and '80's). He played "Numbers" every single night and he also hipped us to many other Kraftwerk songs. As far as the origin of hip-hop, you have to go back to the '60's to a NY group called "The Original Poets" Peace to everyone, Brian -----Original Message----- From: kraftwerk-admin@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:kraftwerk-admin@mailman.xmission.com]On Behalf Of Nat Heidler Sent: Tuesday, May 28, 2002 12:13 PM To: 'kraftwerk@mailman.xmission.com' Subject: [Kraftwerk] Hip Hop Origins I recently had the pleasure of seeing the movie "Scratch" http://www.scratchmovie.com/ The films covers the history of Hip-Hop from the early 70s to just a few years ago. There incredidbly aloof and elusive. If they even decide to play the festival, you'll have to fly them in prior to it and let them investigate everything, probably similar to what they did at Luton in 1997. Considering KW hasnt played live since 1998, I 99.9% doubt you'll ever get KW to play at your festival. Sorry to sound like a pessimist, but thats just the way things are with Kraftwerk. the question is: how many visitors are at your festival? is it a bigbigbig festival or a festival with barbecue in a small village with 100 visitors? *fatgrin* sorry, but i have eaten a clown today... -------------------------------------- www.network81.com www.arthur-brehm.de www.klanghof.de www.duesselklang.de ----- Original Message ----- From: "omegaChance" <omegaChance@firemail.de> To: <kraftwerk@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 29, 2002 1:41 AM Subject: Re: RE: [Kraftwerk] Hip Hop Origins

Well, last year, it drew in over 1 million folks over a three day period. Not too bad. I haven't heard the stats for this year yet but they said it was expected to be even bigger and had over 70 acts. Many are saying that Techno started here. I'm sure I'll get some arguments about that one. Could it be the "Last Poets?" My father played that x-rated rappin' LP to death in 1969. One member is in jail, or maybe released by now. amir Brian Davis wrote:
