Concert Classics / Tribal Gathering - info wanted
I recently purchased a copy of the Concert Classics CD which was discussed on this list a few years ago when it was released and was wondering if one of the knowledgeable list members could tell me: a) When and Where this was recoded b) What the proper titles of the 'Morgenspaziergang' tracks are Also, I rediscovered the cassette recording that I made of the BBC Radio 1 broadcast of Tribal Gathering in 1997. I seem to remember that some of the tracks were broadcast at the wrong speed - again can anybody tell me: a) Which tracks are at the wrong speed b) What correction needs to be made for them to run at the right speed Regards Simon

Chicago in April 1975 If I recall correctly.
b) What the proper titles of the 'Morgenspaziergang' tracks are
KlingKlang and Tanzemusik.
Also, I rediscovered the cassette recording that I made of the BBC Radio 1 broadcast of Tribal Gathering in 1997. I seem to remember that some of the tracks were broadcast at the wrong speed - again can anybody tell me:

you have to resample it from 48 KHZ to 44.1 KHZ. I think, my memory on this is not so clear.

The slow playback speed is due to the recording being made at 48 kHz, but played back at 44.1 kHz. To correct it, the most accurate way is to simply do the reverse: playback a 44.1 kHz recording of the two tracks (i.e. a normal CD recording) at 48 kHz. If my maths serves me right, I make that a speed increase of 8.8435%... someone else check it out too? Note that no fancy time DSP manipulation is required, just a simple increase in both speed and pitch together (usually called "classic mode" or similar in most audio apps). Staggboy

The following is what Aktivitaet (unofficial Kraftwerk fanzine) said about this record:
A live concert recording by the title of 'Concert Classics' (Ranchlife, CRANCH4, CD - also available on vinyl too) was released. Although it very much appears to be a bootleg, the fact that it is readily available and stocked in 'regular' stores in quantity suggests that it is somehow seemingly legitimate. It appears to be licenced from EMI records, though official clearance from Kraftwerk themselves seems unlikely - the quality of the packaging design and sleevenotes being shoddy at best and inaccurate while the stated track listing is also wrong. A good quality, full stereo sound-board recording of a 1975-era concert is what 'Concert Classics' consists of. The packaging does not give details of the concert venue, though the recording originates from a concert in Dallas (Texas), 1975, according to a Japanese press release. The correct track listing is; 'Kometenmelodie' 1 and 2 (11:49), 'Autobahn' (21:54), 'Kling Klang' (10:10) and 'Tanz Musik' (4:16). (On the sleeve packaging the track listing is instead given as 'Kometenmelodie', 'Autobahn', 'Morgenspaziergang 1' and 'Morgenspaziergang 2'.) Ralf Hütter can be heard introducing both 'Kling Klang' and 'Tanz Musik' which makes it yet more perplexing as to how the printed track listing is so inaccurate. A vinyl pressing was also issued, with the same tracks but a different running order to that of the CD. A Japanese CD edition by the name of 'Autobahn Tour '75' (CRCL-4035) was also released in September. <<
Anyway, Kraftwerk mail list long-time member Blanks <blanks@big.or.jp> found the following sources: a) According to an article of Japanese "Music Life" magazine (August issue 1 998), the place/date was "Denver, Colorado. May 1st, 1975". b) The inside sleeve note of "Autobahn Tour" (CRCL-4035) which Japanese edition of "Concert Classics" was written as "unfortunately, this recording date is not identified now, but according to a source, a university somewhere in Denver, Colorado, but not confirmed." Hope this helps. DER AUTOMAT
