I'll have to add that although I was a little disappointed at first with TDF '03, it has "osmotically" wormed its way into my affections. I played it non-stop for about an hour last night! I'm not up on technology at all, but it appears that they're using the same sounds as Expo 2000, perhaps concentrating on the space rather than percussion and melody....and rather than layering everything, they are stripping everything away... I really love the way the track changes with the "Tour De France " vocal... it's definitely aimed at the dance-floor, but I don't think that's a bad thing. For a couple of 55 year olds to come up with tracks that still sound "on it" in terms of contemporary techno , that's still an achievement. It reminds me of a mix between Steve Rachmad AKA Sterac and Thomas Brinkmann, AKA Soul Center, whilst the vocodered stuff is quite reminiscent of French duo The Youngsters. It's precise, subtle and quite short, which is as it should be. Plus, although this is an awful adjective to use, it's "upbeat". As Enrique put it, we should'nt really expect any kind of "second coming" with KW, they've already had their zenith with Computer World, let's just enjoy what they decide to regale us with. -----Original Message----- From: Enrique Correa [mailto:enrique.correa@heraeusmtd.com] Sent: 24 June 2003 00:01 To: 'KW' Subject: [Kraftwerk] New tune. Hi all, I was not disappointed at TdF '03, and I make that statement based on the fact that I was not expecting a groundbreaking warm loving melody mixed with intricated percussions. In fact, their new single has so many elements from E2K and the three new tunes, that it's almost naive for anyone to expect a second coming with their new album. I believe the lukewarm reception to TdF '03, E2K and the unreleased tracks played back in '97, has more to do with the missing elements, than with what's in them. There are almost no elements left, other than the vocals, from the band we all grew up with. Ralf and Florian, keep them coming. I'll buy anything from you guys. It's just that with every one of your new releases, you are making me miss Karl and Wolfgang more every time... I have to admit... despite my initial scepticism... that you're right. It does grow on you funnily enough. It didn't have the typical signs of a "grower" when I first heard it but the fact is I am really beginning to enjoy it. At least much more than I ever did Expo or the new live tracks. I still want a remix with some more interesting drum action though...
