I don't see why there wouldn't be female KW fans. There is nothing 'male' specific about the music they make, perhaps only The Man Machine mentions 'Man', but in German the lyric talks about a 'Mensch' (human). The word 'Man' in Expo 2000 should be understood with the same meaning, I think. I once read a theory that The Model was their most popular track because the song combined 'tech' music with 'human' lyrics'. This way of thinking links 'tech' with male and 'human' with female. I'm not too sure. Apart from those tracks, only Sex Object has remotely to do with gender. So there are no clues or messages to make KW and all male boys club. Why shouldn't women and girls like good music? I presume that KW fans come in all shapes, sizes, genders, colours etc. And I for one, am very pleased with that.
Hey Paul and all, I don't get it either. All I know is that I'm female and think kraftwerk make some of the most beautiful music ever! I have no clue as to why it seems like primarily 'a guy thing.' Maybe the emphasis on exploration, creation, and attention to technology...but if all you hear is the song coming over the radio, you just hear outstanding melodies, and lyrics you can sing all day long. :-) pat --- Paul Mennes <paul.mennes@yucom.be> wrote:

You have to look deeper than that. Music research shows that women generally prefer music with lyrics (with emphasis on *generally* - there are many exceptions). Even if song lyrics talk about things of typical interest to men, they are more likely to appeal to women than instrumental songs.

You could have a point there. The fact that this song has lyrcis that are closer to ordinary pop lyrics than any other KW song, could prove that a wider population than mostly men bought the single.
So there are no clues or messages to make KW and all male boys club.
It's not so much about content as it is about style. If it has been proved that KW appeal to mostly men, it has to be a reason for it. And this phenomenon is not exclusive for Kraftwerk, it shows in all kinds of electronic music, perhaps with the exception of new age.

"Good" music has nothing to do with it. The male and female brain functions differently. So I am not surprised that some music appeals to one gender more than other. Glenn
