'Thought for the day: "How ridiculous to pigeonhole the remarkable talents of Joe Meek
Quite frankly, I have never heard of Joe Meek, and I do not think the average music fan (or even Kraftwerk fan) has either.
Which would be a BIG BIG mistake! (and btw, I mentioned him sometimes on this list.) Joe Meek was the first european indie and truly the most creative music producer and studio pioneer of the early sixties, the sound of his productions is still unique. Must haves are: - The Blue Men: "I Hear A New World" (1960) - V. A.: "It's Hard To Believe It - The Amazing World Of Joe Meek" (the best highlights compilation of his oeuvre I know) - The Tornados: "Satellites And Sound Effects" (the best Tornados compilation I know) More info see <http://www.concentric.net/~meekweb/telstar.htm> Don't forget Joe's 35th anniversary of his tragic death on Feb 3. May his Globbots and Buddy Holly be with him. Jan -- feel free to visit http://reetze.bei.t-online.de http://www.felix-bloch-erben.de
