Simply one thing: Even today every kindergarten kid can still sing "Autobahn". But nearly no one in Germoney remembers "Die Roboter". Even the much newer "Expo 2000" has completely fallen into oblivion.
If a musical piece is still well-remebered nearly 30 years after it's release, a special quality must be inherent in it. I think it's called MAGIC. "Autobahn" has it.
Eh...I agree that "Autobahn" has a kind of magic ;-) (and maybe listening to the 22min original version is better then smoking some kind of weed) but: don't forget "Das Model" - I think one of their best-known songs - thanks to the 'Neue deutsche Welle' - also to 'non kraftwerk' listeners.
