Hi all, I have recently subscribed to this mailing list in the hope that I would get a sniff of information about a possible forthcoming tour.
From what I have been reading this seems about as likely as the sun coming out in London at the moment.
Anyway, I have just secured a copy of Orbital's new 'greatest hits' album, "Work 1989-2002". I have always regarded Orbital as having picked up, where Kraftwerk left off. Not so much in terms of musical genre but in terms of their quality of production and pin-sharp programming. This album really stands out as one of the finest collections of electronica to be produced in the last decade. I have been indebted to these two brothers for their seminal live performances and constant innovation which have filled the vaccuum left by years of inactivity by our beloved KW. The collaboration by the two groups on expo2000 was a shelf-filler and nothing more. I will be seeing Orbital play an open-air concert at Somerset House (London) on June 22. I know for a fact that my brother and I will witness a performance which will resonate in our aural memories forever. No matter where you are from; Korea, Germany or round the corner, I strongly suggest you get a ticket (www.wayahead.com) and be part of a ceremony which is rapidly dying out. Look forward to seeing there if you are already a convert. Sorry if I sound live an advertising agent, I started writing this when I read all your comments about The Mix. The Mix is another shelf-filler but I DO love the version of Computer World and Musique Non Stop. MOVE ON - that album was not important in the great scheme of things. Work 1989-2002 is important. Anthony

i think the mix is the difference between the "old" kw fans and the "new" fans. over the years i noticed on this list that everybody who was a fan in the 70's and 80's doesn't like the mix that much. but it can not be ignored that a lot of younger fans discovered kw via the mix (i for one am one of them). so for the "new" fans the mix will always be one of the best (maybe the best) kw albums. just trying to find an answer to a discussion that keeps comming back... g

Well, I've been a fan of Kraftwerk for a long time, but nowhere near as long as some of the people on here. I was born in the year when Radio-Activity came out which means I was 16 when The Mix came out. I had heard some Kraftwerk stuff before that but I think The Mix was the first Kraftwerk album I bought. And although I loved it at the time and it could be said to have heightened my interest for the band, the big point for me is that it just doesn't have the longevity of the earlier stuff. And today, for me, it would be a contender for the worst Kraftwerk album. It just feels quite unnecessary. Still wondering why they released it, could it maybe have been that they needed some money to buy new bikes?
Erik
