Some comments on how Kraftwerk's releases appear in a place of 7 million inhabitants (Hong Kong). EMI are 1 of the 'big 5' record companies here that are international - they currenty have the No.1 release with 'Maxsim' ('flight of the bumble bee with a disco beat' piano player) who has been endlessly promoted in tv spots + newspaper press. That artist seems to be the entire focus of EMI's promotional budget here. Recently HMV (there's no Tower or Virgin here) had a relaunch - complete with free DVD+CD compilation... some 15 EMI artists, but no Kraftwerk included. At least before with Expo 2000 EMI included a unique edit as the opening track on an EMI Hong Kong compilation (complete with promo glo-stick). The low-key promotion ensures that TDF 2003 was filed in the 'Kylie' section of the 'Singles' bin at HMV stores here - equally copy/non-protected releases... prices range from $55-70. Each store initially had 1 or 2 copies, but are now claiming it's an "international top seller" (as are another local cd chain of stores). So, while Kraftwerk was on the cover of a local music magazine several weeks ago...no copies of the single were available. TDF Soundtracks was meant to appear on Monday, according to various shops...it didn't because of delays at EMI. When it did appear yesterday (I found mine for $90 in a shop that has a section for 'Komputer' but not for 'Kraftwerk') , it came complete with a red/white/blue 3rd sticker on the sleeve, to quote: "Treat yourself & cycle to for a taste of France. Enjoy the authentic French culinary at Le Brasserie. Discount coupon inside" ..you get a 20% discount coupon, to eat at the Marco Polo Hotel, valid until 30/9/2003. Would that make anyone buy, who wasn't already? Best Wishes, Kasperbauer __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo! DSL - Now only $29.95 per month! http://sbc.yahoo.com
