This is how it seems to me... The German pressing (591 710 2) has the copy protection, the UK pressing (591 708 2) does not. You can tell them apart quite easily: the German edition has the copy protection info in a white box at the top right of the CD rear, the UK one does not. There is also a sticker on the front of the German version with the Copy Control logo. (Note that both versions have the "support the artists" spiel on the inner tray - this is not the same thing). Another difference is that the German pressing has additional PC and Mac apps on the CD for automatic playback without any additional software; presumably to get around the fact that some computers must have difficulty reading the table of contents. I have to say though, that this copy protection is pretty crap - I can quite easily rip the files into AAC/mp3/AIF/WAVs using the bog standard iTunes app on the Mac, no devious measures needed. What the protection does seem to be better at, however, is preventing digital copies by SPDIF output. It was exactly the same with the German and UK single CD pressings too. I guess it all boils down to which pressings have been imported to where. Staggboy
