There's a program called SndSampler which can do this, as well as good edit edit and fade in/out control, as well as a wide range of subtle and not so subtle effects. You can even flip tracks and play them backwards -- weird! To edit an AIF file you'll need a lot of ram, as it could be 10 times the size of the mp3 it's converted from.
