I'm pretty sure that the Spanish radio mp3 is different from the one I heard on BBC Radio 1 last week. I'd missed the beginning (a friend called me and told me to put the radio on), but I don't remember that techno-stab motif at all. The beats were similar, as was the vocoder/vox sections, but there was more of an "bubbly" sequencer running, and a touch of analog strings. Afterward, Mark & Lard gave the title as "Tour de France Stages 1,2 and 3" so maybe they played the whole CD sequence, and what I heard was Stage 3? Can anyone else clarify? Anyway, I must say I don't find either version disappointing. True, KW will never be as innovative as they once were, but what's the alternative - no more releases at all? If you see the track for what it is - a mood-piece based on the atmosphere of the race - it makes a lot more sense. One thing KW have always been quite unique at is the speech and vocal parts; listen closely, and the vox have a brilliant rich tone, and even a French accent! Sonically, the track fits in with the other stuff they've been working on, and I gotta say, I'm pretty excited by it all! 4 years since Expo, 12 years since The Mix, 17 since Electric Cafe... it's like bloody Christmas here in Kraftwerk-land!
