If you just want the music, by all means - get a bootleg! You can pick them up at eBay for $10-20 quite easily, and they sound pretty good. I believe the best one is the one from Crown Records (or is it? I heard only the Drone issue and the Crown, but not the other two) Cheers, Peo ----- Original Message ----- From: "Roman von Contzen" <romi.van.keulen@energylab.de> To: <kraftwerk@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thursday, August 15, 2002 22:51 Subject: AW: [Kraftwerk] Organisation - Record prices
Hi Peo! Thanks for your detailled information. As the last hours went by and regarding that i'm no hardcore collector (anymore) - just a guy who was a fan in the early 80s and now fell in love again with the good old Kraftwerk music - i've come to the conclusion that i won't ever spend more than 50 euros. I think that this is enough - just for the sake of the "good old times". I've done too many crazy things over the years just to get hold on one or the other record - i even went to London/England to buy a Prince record that was only available at Tower Of Records in these days. Was i satisfied when i returned home about 24 hours later - after a drive of about 1.200 km and several hours on the ferry-boat? The answer is no! Collecting is quite a nice hobby, but there are some other things more satisfying - and sometimes they are for free! :-) Ok enough for now. Thanks again!!! Roman

Hi Roman!
Prices for Tone Float fluctuate quite heavily. I've seen prices between $100 and $1000 over the years, although they seem to have settled in the $300-$500 arena right now.
The last copy to be sold on eBay was very expensive - don't remember exactly but it was over $500.
As always with records of this sort, the price depends on the bidder and on the circumstances. The same copy could go for $200 or $1000 depending on who's buying and if the timing is right. I think most people into Kraftwerk could spend $100 for the record, some up to $200, but only people with a big wallet or hardcore collectors would think about spending $300 or more, making it quite difficult to find buyers at that price.
The condition obviously plays a key role as well. As long as the cover is in good condition and plays well throughout, I wouldn't worry too much about the grading though. Rare records are always valuable, even if they have a slight damage to the cover or not.
Finally, be wary of counterfeits of this record too. There are least four different bootlegs of this LP, and possibly more.
In my personal opinion, I think this record isn't too interesting. First of all, it plain sucks, and secondly, it's not particularly interesting to Kraftwerk collectors since the music has basically no resemblance at all to Kraftwerk. At least I don't think so, and I'm an avid fan of the "early days", e.g. 1970-73. Tone Float just strikes me as too experimental, and too abstract. No melodies at all to speak of, just boring drug-induced bonking on objects in no particular rhythm ;)
Of course it's rare, though. Imagine yourself: a totally unknown German outfit releases an LP in England, without any PR or anything like that. Fat chance that record ever had. Coupled to the fact that it totally sucks, the amount of sold records should be quite easy to count, I think.
I could most likely point out 100 Kraftwerk records that are much more interesting from a collector's point of view!
Cheers, Peo

Hi! Does any body know of a source where i can find out something about actual prices for original Kraftwerk or pre-Kraftwerk records? Today i held one of the original "Organisation" copys in my own hands (english pressing with the RCA-Label). The guy asked 300 euros for that!!! I think this is a lot of money for an old record - even if it's from "the" guys. He told me that someone payed 900 euros in an auction lately. Could this be true? Thanks! Ro(bot)man - Berlin
