I've seen them both in 2002 and 1997 (Karlsruhe). Airwaves was indeed the extended techno version, but it didn't sound exactly the same as back in 1997 (maybe this was version 0.3 beta). The experimentation part was this: No more synths on stage, only laptops (Sony Vaio), I think I've seen that at least Ralf had a keyboard in front of his laptop, the other seem to have some kind of controllers, but Ralf was definitely playing some chords sometimes... And he forgot to sing a line or two :-) and sang another couple a bit off key... Also nice was the mix of using German and English in the same song, for different verses, and of course, it was Belgium... Pocket Calculator in English and French. It did sound different, because of the problems they seemd to have with the laptops (or the Cubase SX software), sometimes certain parts of the music (mostly the bass) seemed to have disappeared, on other occasions a lead sounded like it was started a half a measure to early or late, or at a completely wrong time. But again, it wasn't really that bad, actually, it was showing us that they were actually in control of the sound, otherwise it could have been just a computer on stage, playing all the tunes. Oh yeah, they left the robots/dummies in Duesseldorf. The sound itself was massive, surround from all 4 corners of the (small) concerthall, and with deep, very deep basses. As far as I could tell, most of the sounds played were samples, but some seemed to come from softsynths, because they just sounded different from the original tracks and the previous concerts. Sometimes there was too much reverb (and it seemed to be coming from Florian, because the others were looking at him, with big questionmarks on their faces). Of course, Florian just stood there, sometimes even with both hands behind his back. I got the impression this show was a dress rehearsal for the next shows, because of all the errors that occured, but nevertheless, it was a great show. The videoclips from the 3 big beamers were very high quality, although sometimes it seems that the beamer on the right (audience view) didn't like to play along, just the left and middle were showing some things (during Autobahn). Anyway... a great concert, nice to see the old geezers again :-) Leon

Expo 2000, The Model, Neon Lights, Trans Europe Europe, The Robots, Autobahn, Radioactivity, Airwaves, Homecomputer/It's more fun to compute, Pocketcalculator, The man machine, Numbers/Computerworld and finally Boing Boom Tschak/Music Non Stop
(not neccessarily in that order)...
No new experimentations, huh? I guess that drives a nail in the coffin of new album rumors, for the near future.
Was Airwaves the "extended" techno version from the '98 shows?
And Neon Lights! :)
What I would like to know is if, other than the setlist, things sounded any different from the 98 shows.... maybe someone on the list is lucky enough to see Kraftwerk in both 1997-98 and 2002?
Hopefully, Kraftwerk will play with the setlist a little between between shows so that we get a variety, but somehow I doubt they will. ;)
