As far as the origin of hip-hop, you have to go back to the 1960s to a NY group called "The Original Poets" <<<
PUHLEEZ! They're called THE LAST POETS, and they were one of the original spoken-word groups. Sure, spoken-word, with its jazz-like cadences were an influence on hip hop, but it isn't the ORIGIN of hip-hop. If you say it like that, you have to go back to Africa, where almost everything has its origin! The so-called "godfather" of hip-hop was Kool DJ Herc, who came from Jamaica, bringing the sound-system idea to the South Bronx. Rhyming over the beat of the sound-system DJ came next--we're talking 1975, here. www.zulunation.com has hip-hop history and knowledge for your dome. Peace.
