Ralf has mentioned it before, and I've just read an article by Holger Czukay on Stockhausen which mentions radio stations in Cologne and Milan that played electronic music at night in the 50's. Does anyone have any more info on these at all? Cheers Toby
In the middle 50's, the only radio in Milan was the national one, Radio RAI. In 1954, musicians Luciano Berio and Bruno Maderna co-founded the Studio of Musical Phonology at the RAI studios, a project to develop electro-acoustic and experimental music. Maybe the music broadcasted at night was something produced there... But I think it's easier guessing that Stockhausen refers to the music of Pietro Grossi, one of the pioneers of automatic/computer generated music, even if a few years later... It's possible to know something about him and to listen to a few samples of his music here: http://www.pietrogrossi.org/musica.htm Best regards. Didi, Milano
