Hey Glenn and all,

I moderate a Cabaret Voltaire list at yahoo with over 150 members.  Trust me, there are plenty of women who are interested in music, avidly collect it, etc.  I'm always excited when I can get ephemera relating to my favorite bands, not just cds.

My husband and I took a little trip yesterday, I bought 7 cds from a variety of bands (cabaret voltaire, can, discharge, the human expression, to name a few).  I actively trade music with people all over the world.

I've also spouted quite a bit lately on this very list about my love for the music of Kraftwerk and how great they are.  This woman is not quiet when it comes to that :-)

And I would be the first woman in line if Kraftwerk did a tour here in the states.  I consider myself very lucky because both my husband and I enjoy music very much.  For me to go to a concert means I go with my best friend.  I've never been the kind of woman that has ever gone to a show because I was somebodies girlfriend.

The above examples may just be evidence for the 'exceptions that may exist' but I know plenty of other women that enjoy music as much as I do, take it seriously, and are actively involved in supporting their favorite bands.  Maybe that's not the most scientific thing in the world, but that's what I've observed.

And now I don't know about anybody else, but can we get back to the good stuff, i.e. KRAFTWERK!! :-))

take care all,

pat

On the other hand, it is more difficult to spot female fans of any genre or
artist because:

* Women are more than men able to enjoy / "be fans of" music without owning
CDs (ownership of physcial objects appeal more to men than women)
* Women tend to not "collect" things as much as men - collecting stuff is to
a large extent a male activity
* Women tend to communicate more than men on an emotional level and
therefore do not need so many visual aids (posters, merchandise, souvenirs)
as men - men are more visually inclined than women
* Women are often quiter than men and voice their appreciation for something
less than men in (subconcious) fear of being rejected for their preferences.
Men dont care if other men laugh at their preference for "geeky computer
music"

These things are based on sociological studies and apply *in general*
(exceptions exist) on a large scale. You and your friends may not be like
the above but then again, you and your friends may not represent the entire
population of a country.
