Well, Computers were in a sense a part of our everyday life in 1981 because
they were beginning to control everything, such as Scotland Yard etc, I
would concede not everyone had a computer then, but I think that is still
the case today? As for "The Hall of Mirrors", I think people who liked
narcotics would be more likely to understand that one!

I think they are quite unpredictable in this way, we do not always know what
they are interested in....

Yes, it goes back to the Yuppie era of the 1980's in our country, when
highfliers carried around bricks and spoke into them, no-one knew what was
going on, but these are the days when the mobile is owned by nearly everyone
and is easy to carry
>I believe the study of Phonetics IS 'old'
Oh yes, undeniably. But Phonetics is being used now in a completely
different way, such as the "Phonetic Dictionary" that was conveniently
placed for me to provide a link to! It shows how we are changing old
concepts to fit the modern world

Not always the case. Computer World (LP) for example, hit us in 1981...
computers were NOT a part of daily life. On the obscure end of the scale
what about "Hall of Mirrors" is that immediately understandable?
But.... I'll concede that Kraftwerk pick topics which they like, want to
comment on or just want to have fun with!

old???"
OK.. cellphones "we use today" are obviously as up to date as you can get..
but the "idea" of a mobile communicating device is a little older...
I believe the study of Phonetics IS 'old'.... maybe the electronic
reproduction of sounds is a little newer.. BUT... I know of references to a
professor Kratzenstein (from Holland??) who produced sounds of the vowels
with tubes connected to the pipes of a church organ. All this was done in
the 1770's.

It is possible that Kraftwerk could have more than one track on the album
about "Mobile Phones", such as the "Text Message" track that I have
mentioned. Sending text messages in my country (UK) is a way of life for
many people because it is inexpensive and gets the message across
efficiently, I send text messages rather than "call" other people...unless
it is absolutely necessary.
The "Dialogue" track could be about a completely new language, more up to
date than the Esperanto and Franglais languages that we all already aware
of!
My point of view is not to overcomplicate things too much, stick to subjects
that streetwise people are comfortable with rather than what the scientists
have to say, which is obviously interesting but perhaps a little bit much
for you or I at this stage...

A possible tracklisting, based on the classic 6-track formula established by
1978's "The Man Machine" (the tracks could be quite long)
Kraftwerk - "Webwide World"
1 Webwide World
2 Cellphone
3 Text Message
4 Dialogue
5 Phonetics
6 E-Mail
We can work on the track names later

Kraftwerk should not let concepts get in the way of a new album, I would be
delighted if they made an album of brand new music and simply called it "The
Mix 2" or something....

Um...Kraftwerk make albums about things that are part of our everyday life,
rather than obscure things that not too many people understand. We are
talking about an updated Computer World, so we replace Home Computers,
Pocket Calculators and Educational Programming with the Internet, Cellphones
and Phonetics.
How on earth is the internet "old", how on earth are the cellphones that we
use today old and how on earth is modern language studies (phonetics) old???

I don't believe this would be the case. All these ideas are old and are part
of our every day life. I believe themes would be based on leading edge ideas
(hence my earlier suggestion of genetics). But on the theme of
communication.. what about biologic links to computers?.. scientists are
experimenting with this right now.. there are even artificial eyes now!
Stevie Wonder has had one of the first prototypes. Wouldn't this be a good
theme... AND fall in to an updated "Man Machine" concept?

What is the concept of Electic Cafe then, I would love you to tell me,
because I always though the last concept album that Kraftwerk made was
Computer World, which you seem to think deserves remaking, I prefer
something new by Kraftwerk (i.e. something they haven't covered before)
Rob.
