Here's a question for any of you musicianly-types out there, something
that's been bugging me for a while. Apologies if it's boring for some
other list members - please just ignore this post and any replies.
One of my favourite moments in Kraftwerk's live show over the last few
years has been the end section of the original "Tour De France". After
the breakdown/percussive section and subsequent build-up towards the
end, the track finally returns to the main melody and chord sequence
for the last 32 bars; specifically twice around the 8-chord sequence, 2
bars on each chord.
Only here there's a difference in the 2nd and 4th chords in the
pattern, giving an extra sense of lift and grandeur to the end of the
song. Just have a listen to any of the recent live recordings, though
it's not in any of the officially released versions, including the new
album. It doesn't seem to be a chord or key change as such, but what is
it that gives the sense of change? Just extra notes in the chord? Or is
it just in my imagination? Can anyone with some musical ability please
enlighten... (I understand chords/keys/harmony etc, I'm just
cloth-eared, that's all) ?
