RE: [KLF] Re: KLF digest, Vol 1 #328 - 4 msgs [BOLLOCKS]

From: "Stuart Bruce" <Stuart.Bruce@FameAcademy.endemoluk.com> spouted: People subscribed to receive every message seperately (which I think is = probably the majority) can set whether they receive HTML-enabled or = HTML-removed e-mails.
dear me, I didn't think there would ever be any KLF news that one needed to know NOW. Especially in the present climate. Poor people.
There are other benefits to receiving individual posts over a digest, besides getting e-mails 'immediately'. Getting individual posts makes it easier to sift through them for the ones you actually want to read, easier to filter out messages from people you can't be bothered to read messages from (or filter out "[FTP]" messages- but that's never gonna really work is it?), keep the messages you might reply to later whilst deleting the rest, etc. etc.
People who receive the digest, can't change this setting.
Thats a bummer, seing as it them or rather us who have to trawl through it all in a big line.
I'm afraid I do not feel your pain.
Since digest readers are probably in the minority and are already = resigned to sifting through messages anyway, it's unlikely that a = consensus could be reached to avoid HTML on this list.
Well not sending it would be a start, as has often been said, there is no reason to send html email. ever.
Well, the fact that every time I log on at work my settings have been changed back to Rich Text, and I can't be bothered to change that setting every day since this is the only list I'm complains about it (I'm mostly on Yahoo Groups lists, which have better controls over whether you want HTML or plain text messages). So the simple solution is that I'll just unsubscribe from this list, on the grounds that the shit-to-interest ratio on this list is now far too high to be worth bothering with. Thank you and goodbye. I'm not quoting anything in this message. I justed wanted to say this: I'm a reader of this mailing list for over 6 years now, and personally I have never, yes I mean *never*, been irritated at all by anything, yes I mean *anything*, regarding this mailing list at all. So, to all people planning on leaving the list, it's a shame if you do. Don't let your life be influenced by something this cumbersome. Go out some more, perhaps, and let things that actually *could* be irritating frustrate you. That way you'll spend your energy more wiselt. If, on the other hand, you like to rant on stuff on this mailing list, well, as I said earlier, it doesn't irritate me at all. It actually makes an interesting read too, society-wise. So, to conclude: Relax! Get frustrated about your bank account being minus 3000 pounds continuously, not about this mailing list, for Pete's sake. And do rant back at me if you'd like, I think it's a nice read anyway.
People subscribed to receive every message seperately (which I think is = probably the majority) can set whether they receive HTML-enabled or HTML-removed e-mails.
i dont think this is the case. i've tried everything i could to get rid of them - i dont think it can be done. what can be done is for people to set the list address up in the addressbook, and specify to always send text to that address.
dear me, I didn't think there would ever be any KLF news that one needed to know NOW. Especially in the present climate. Poor people.
acutally i agree with this in that so far as klf news, there isnt much. there's bill news, or jimmy news, or html/ftp news, but not much "klf".
There are other benefits to receiving individual posts over a digest, besides getting e-mails 'immediately'. Getting individual posts makes it easier to sift through them for the ones you actually want to read, easier to filter out messages from
this is the reason i swapped back from digest.
people you can't be bothered to read messages from (or filter out "[FTP]" messages- but that's never gonna really work is it?),
unfortunetly i'm starting to agree with you. it obviously requires a genius level iq to remember to put those 5 chars in, and people are constantly proving they're not geniusi (sp?)
keep the messages you might reply to later whilst deleting the rest, etc. etc.
agreed. i know if i see a post from rob that; it'll contain lots of extra unneeded chars, it'll likely be in html/rich text, it's likely to be unrelated to the list, and its likely it'll cause lots of noise. and because of all that, i wont read his msgs first or in order. Rob: i feel like i'm picking on you, but this would be solved if you could remember to put those 5 chars in the subject line. is it really worth this much noise just so you can have pretty text? yes, we ALL know we could hit delete, but WE all know that if YOU put those 5 chars in, this problem goes away. heres a thought - why dont you run your own mail server, and host your own email list just for your ftp. you have a changing ip? not a problem. use a redirector. my mates done it with optus and ihug here, you can achieve it there. your ISP says you cant run a server? well your ftp server is already breaking the rules, and blatent mp3ing/divxing of currently for sale music/videos is also breaking the rules, and you send html to a list that should be text. what do you care about rules? you dont know how? use google and read. plenty of servers to choose from. improving your knowledge is always a good thing.
Well not sending it would be a start, as has often been said, there is no reason to send html email. ever.
Well, the fact that every time I log on at work my settings have been changed back to Rich Text, and I can't be bothered
what do you log onto? what mail client? it looks like you're connected to an exchange server, which probably means a flavour of outlook. anyway, if its win32 based, its likely i can fix it.
to change that setting every day since this is the
if you set the address up in the address book does it disappear?
only list I'm complains about it
perhaps the people on this list are in general older, and thus we pay more respect to the netiquette rules because we understand why they are so (and why html is so bad).
I'm mostly on Yahoo Groups lists, which have better controls over whether you want HTML or plain text messages).
unfortunetly i believe yahoo is one of the reasons people think its ok to use html :-( hotmail is partly to blame too.
So the simple solution is that I'll just unsubscribe from this list, on the grounds that the shit-to-interest ratio on this list is now far too high to be worth bothering with. Thank you and goodbye.
i wouldnt bother unsubbing. this debate turns up every couple of years anyway. it'll get quiet again soon. just file everything into a folder and read it when you're bored. there's certainly an increase in headers being used, which will make it easier to ignore those you dont wish to read. and hopefully those who dont use headers yet will start to use them and then everybody's happy. Stuart: i cant remember how long i've been on the list for now, but i'm sure you've been here the whole time i have. i value your input much more than some others on this list. pls reconsider. best wishes brendan [posted+emailed in case stuart really did unsub]
