I took those lyrics to mean just about the opposite of racism: what drummond is actually doing is railing against the restrictive nature of the concept of "genre" and image - "in other words", why does pop music require a rapper to be a black, chain-wearing sterotype? a rapper need not even be "authentic", as long as the caricature is
does ANYONE agree that the song is "proto-racist"???
US black male rappers always say that they are best, that other rappers/labels are shit (2Pac/Biggie) and this goes as far as death threats, nobody claimed them being racist.
actually, I hadn't even really considered looking at the lyrics in that context - I was so surprised by trouser press's accusation of "proto-racism" that I didn't realize just how simple it all was :) man, does trouser press suck! thanks for your insight gyerek!
