I can answer some of your questions Jason, having been there a few times: #1. What is it like there? Some general impressions. Is it cold all the time? (or how long is it cold?) Are the people nice? Can I get away with not speaking any German? weather: you won't get a californian clime, but it will be nice in the summer, a little cold in the winter perhaps, but not too bad. people: extremely nice, very welcoming and hospitable. interesting. i love it there. language: if you speka just english, you won't be ostracised as you would in some countries, but they'll love it if you make the effort. not everyone speaks english there, though you'll get by. you should try and learn the language - you'll have fun. #2. What is the electronic music scene there like? you won't go short of electronic music in Germany, especially if you're in a large city. fear not. #3. Is the rest of Europe fairly accessible (+affordable) via rail? yes. europe is very accessible, couldn't give you prices but a bit of hunting on the web will give you an idea. you can fly cheaply, and get trains. the trains are great in germany, and holland. you'll have fun. #4. How's the health care? better than the US - guaranteed. #5. How's the food situation? no problems, the germans are famous for liking their meat, but I (as a veggie) have found no problems getting some nice stuff. What's more, the beer is beautiful.
