Hello all, First off, thanks for the info on STP Twentythree! I've not posted to the list for a while, but I'm always sure to monitor each and every message. I've followed the KLF since about 1989, collected their records from about 1991, and been a member of this list from early 1997 (I think). The list has been fantastic fun and has brought me in contact with a ton of great people and a lot of rarities I wouldn't have found otherwise. As a serious KLF collector, I own many rarities such as the IGUN grey vinyl, Pure Trance Last Train (not boot), CDs of Shag Times and WTIL Story, etc. I've even done business with Tim once or twice over the years and know that he's probably the top(known)collector of KLF merchandise. I was wondering if those in the know could illuminate me on his current auctions, especially WTIL acid mix and January WTIL. Of course, I've heard of these recordings many times, but don't know too much about the content as I've never heard them. Sonically, what's unique about these versions? Is January, a completely different recording, or rather the standard America WTIL with a different intro/samples? Is the acid mix of WTIL radically different/mega-intriguing mix or simply scarce due to the low number of pressings? Dan Hutchins
PROMO 2 and 3 are much more collectable than CHOC ICE 2 and 3 (which came out roughly the same time and both sets seemed to follow a pattern - i.e. both had three promos, with each one in the series being more scarce than the former - if that makes sense). KLF92PROMO3 is generally agreed to have been a very low run - from the discog: 12"WL: 1992 UK (KLF Communications; KLF 92 PROMO 3) [promo x20? more?] 5:49 What Time Is Love? (acid mix) Recently a few have exchanged hands on eBay and - yet again - sadly a bootleg of this one surfaced at around the same time. There was a big discussion on the list a while back which involved a lot of scanned pictures, several seriously disappointed people, and the eventual creation of Don's webpage (mislaid the url, sorry) that describe the differences between the real thing and the boot. The track itself is very different to the released WTIL track - in fact there was speculation that it could have actually been a promo release for a prospective new mix. KLF92PROMO2 is still rare but not as rare as PROMO3. Again, from the discog: 12"WL: 1991 UK (KLF Communications; KLF 92 PROMO 2) [promo x50?; Dec 91] 7:23 January: What Time Is Love? [New-Year's "America: WTIL?" with "Auld Lang Syne" bagpipe intro] This is just an extended version of the general release with a bagpipe intro. I produced a couple of mp3's of both of these a while back, you should still be able to get them from Rob's FTP server. Failing that, I'll try to convert them again (still got the WAVs) and make them available. All the coloured presses are pretty rare. Have you ever seen a 5TOTP mustardvinyl or clear vinyl? Or a blue 004X. Or a multi-coloured 7" AWTIL. They all have been pressed in very small numbers. I've never encounterd nor had the chance to buy one of these.
