Radio Freedom (Radio KLF)
Hi everyone I was thinking of playing with a streaming radio on my servers. Either running my own (icecast) or using Live365. What's your ideas on a radio station that was heavily KLF based? ORb, Jamms, electronica etc. I'd love your feedback. Regards Andrew

would it just continually loop? or would there be set play times? i'd only really tune in at the weekends i guess, and probably mostly at unsociable hours when i'm on the computer cos there's nothing else to do but if there was one, i'd be sure to check it out On Friday, May 23, 2003, at 02:41 PM, Andrew McCombe wrote:

Hi there, I'm sorry for the shameless plug... we are non profit and free of charge and always looking out for more djs to join us... esp. those with a KLF bent and a true spirit of Freedom! ;) We started it over three years ago... To start with it was just me... playing every klf, orb, dub, and any wonderful music i could find. Then we thought of having djs from all over the world playing and doing basically anything they liked. So we set up lots of servers in Telehouse London and started writing the software to make it all happen. This has worked well... and we have now had over 300 different djs playing for us. The big bonus is that we run it using free software for the dj, so he can get aboard at no cost to himself. We have djs that play live keyboards and guitars etc. to djs with a mixer and decks plugged into their pc. To djs who just use winamp and a cheap pc mic to cast fantastic shows with. We are always looking for new djs who would like to join our community. Its toooo cool! :)) You can listen to our shoutcast streams at: http://www.radio-freedom.co.uk:128/listen.pls - for broadband and: http://www.radio-freedom.co.uk:56/listen.pls - modems. Also for windows media player we have a very high quailty stream here: mms://www.radio-freedom.co.uk:3000 http://radio-freedom.co.uk or http://radio-freedom.com and to be cool: http://this-is.radio-freedom.co.uk Even though over time we have grown more eclectic we are still "Live from Trancentral" Come and check us out... join out chatroom, maybe even sign up to dj! I've been listening to this Radio-freedom station for over 10 hours this weekend - and not once have I heard anything remotely related to or sounding like KLF material. It's a great station, lot's of diversity, but no KLF. Andrew
Sorry to ask a silly question... I'm sure I missed and accidentally deleted the original info, but can someone please repost the URL for Radio Freedom? Check the bottom of the message you just posted; there's a link to information pages for this list. Click on "KLF archives", and click somewhere on "May 2003". Doing this will eventually take you here: http://mailman.xmission.com/pipermail/klf/2003-May/003427.html
Hello Andrew, Well to be honest you probably need to tune in for more than 10 hours. Like i said in my post "over time we have grown more eclectic" I have no control over what the djs play and not everyone is a huge KLF fan ;) This is the reason why we are always on the look out for new dj's that may like to play KLF related material. I cast under the guise of the DJ-2K2 and if you are tuned in after midnight to approx 3am you will indeed hear plenty of KLF, Orb and late 80's Electronica. Mark www.radio-freedom.com

Hello Peter, Yes we have quite a number of dj's casting using Linux, for some reason a lot of them seem to prefer Darkice ( http://darkice.sf.net ) Linux especially Mandrake and FreeBsd have proved to be very stable for casting. Strangely though we have had only a few Mac casters...! No idea why. Mark www.radio-freedom.com
