Like most others here, I have no idea what Jimmy feels about the KLF legacy now. But according to acquaintances, Bill was at one point desperate to be seen as a writer rather than a "pop prankster". This, coupled with his fairly precarious mental state in 1992 (he says so himself), is maybe partly the reason why he looks back on KLF with such jaundice. Also - isn't it just what people do when they give birth to a cult? John Cleese hates doing the "Ministry of Silly Walks" to this day, and William Shatner is forever telling Trekkies and Trekkers to "get a life". But like Thomas said, when you create something with so many depths, levels and aspects (when 99% of media is one-dimensional) you can't be surprised if people are endlessly fascinated. This is why "The Simpsons" has lasted thirteen years! On a personal level, I consider Bill Drummond one of Scotland's finest contemporary writers, and admire him as much for that as I do for the KLF's music (life-affirming though it will always be). I appreciate this view may not be held by many on the list, though! John Not Scots, just Scott-ish

when i met him the other year when he was exhibiting his car crash paintings at.... erm, the big park in london. where speakers corner is. anyway, he didn't seem pissed off that we were klf fans (although i did appologise for that) but more just disapointed that we weren't there to buy the paintings or comission others it might just have been because it was on and off pissing down with rain and so there was no one else around to talk to him about the paintings, but he seemed happy enough to stand and talk to us for 10 minutes or so.... before subtlely but assuredly telling us to piss off cos he was getting wet (well, what he said was "have you seen the paintings from the other side of the road - it's a better view" but i knew what he meant) :-) . -- --- Copula Eam Si Non Posit Acceptera Jocularum! repo23@illitrate.co.uk http://www.illitrate.co.uk/
I agree with much of what's been said so far. It must be incredibly galling to constantly be brought back to something you did X number of years ago. But there's a certain stage where something you've created is simply beyond your control and becomes almost public property. I think The KLF's act of deleting their back catalogue was their attempt to reclaim some control over a joke which they think went too far. But thankfully you can't delete history, you can't uninvent something. And I'm sure one day, when they're through pissing about doing other things, they'll get nostalgic for the old days when the world was singing their song and they'll rerelease everything. Either that or they'll die and their kids'll fancy some paydirt. This stuff doesn't stay buried. Just ask John Lennon. Free as a Bird my ass. Does anyone remember the song from the late 80's -early 90's Star Trekkin across the Galaxy?
