Re: [KLF] OT: art terrorism in Paris
Incidentally, what does "owned" mean? Maybe I'm getting old, but I've only ever heard this phrase used in the comments section of Youtube!
Do you mean where it's used in the sentence "owned up to it"? It means claim ownership or confessing. But if you mean where it's written " Paris = Owned?" then I haven't the slightest. -paul
Incidentally, what does "owned"
"owned" is a term, more commonly written as "pwned". It originates from the LAN-party scene where people play first-person shooters together. When you kill someone else, you just 'pwned that guy'. Or, you just 'pwn'. Do visit http://www.purepwnage.com (yes, that is Pure Ownage) for more :)

the reason it is "pwn" is cos in the excitement of a game where you only have half a second to type an insult to your mates before you get gunned down yourself, it's far too easy to hit the 'p' instead of an 'o' and then it stuck and now it's far too easy to hit the 'o' by mistake and so you have to delete back and correct it and then someone rail guns you to death while you're at it hahahaaha you're all so old, not knowing what 'owned' means :) :)
lol pwned !!!!11111shiftone!!!!!111!! I am too old for this but playing Counterstrike means some things rub off..... .....Bam headshot! Ted On 05/09/06, zero_23@mac.com <zero_23@mac.com> wrote:

No, no, no... "All your base are belong to us" was an inside joke from another scene, the "retrogamers" scene. A long, long time ago, many of us played most of our computer games in "arcade halls". Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Space Invaders, you know what I mean. A lot of these games were imports from the East, where people just started to learn translating their games in to the english language. This resulted in game intro- and end-sequences with such poor translations, that some of them became famous. Fastforward a few years, where everyone can play those games from the golden days using MAME or some other arcade emulator, and more people meet each other on the internet. One such badly translated phrase, which an enemy shouts towards the player in the intro sequence, became quite famous this way. "All your base are belong to us" is from the intro sequence of the 1989 game "Zero Wing", not itself a famous game in it's own time, but it did became famous because of this hick-up. A member of the Tribal War forums, Bad_CRC, posted a flash animation which featured this particular intro sequence, bored people made all kinds of media featuring the sentence and so on, and so on. You know how these things go. Don't you just love it?
another thing is "all your base belong to us" or something,is that derived from capture-the-flag LAN/online games?

ha ha you're so young, not knowing that the original usage, pre-dating multiplayer games, refers to hackers cracking a server. :-) Have a look at the website defacement mirrors for plenty of hacker graffiti saying "this site is owned" http://attrition.org/mirror/attrition/ http://www.zone-h.org/component/option,com_attacks/Itemid,43/ cheers

The no 1 best website defacement ever... the spice girls website from november 1997: http://attrition.org/mirror/attrition/1997/11/14/spice/

my guess is its a corruption of the hacker / jammer speak [cracker slang; often written "0wned"] Your condition when your machine has been cracked by a root exploit, and the attacker can do anything with it. implying the perp has bested paris n'est pas ----- Original Message ----- From: TheMgnt@aol.com To: klf@mailman.xmission.com Sent: Tuesday, September 05, 2006 8:01 PM Subject: Re: [KLF] OT: art terrorism in Paris ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
