Hi Just uploading a 320 Kbps version of JAMS CD3 to the FTP server. I didn't see it there so I hope thats OK. The untitled tracks (BPM titled) are quite interesting). I'm a bit of a newbie to this so if I've got it wrong feel free to delete it and let me know. I'm always interested in completing my collection so if you know of other good sites I'd be grateful. Cheers Bathman. ________________________________________________________________________ Want to chat instantly with your online friends? Get the FREE Yahoo! I can remember in the good old days when we had to buy things called records and cds and pay (sometimes lost of) money for them. Life must be so dull now that you only have to visit a fan run ftp site and download all this stuff for free. Where's the fun in that?
I bought Shag Times on CD many years ago ... but it was stolen along with about 10 other KLF cds from my car a few years back .. most of them I have replaced but the Shag Times CD has been hard to come by. in this sense ... i hugely appreciate an upload like this. as an artist myself - i too recommend buying where possible ... but this is a KLF list ... sure .. go buy new music ... but dont give this guy a hard time for uploading KLF back catalogue does it also bother you that Blacksmoke make their tracks available free on the website rather than sending them to shops for any number of middle-men to make money from them? i, for one, appreciate the upload of both. cheers chief -----Original Message----- From: klf-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:klf-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Simon Daw Sent: 19 October 2003 22:38 To: klf@mailman.xmission.com Subject: Re: [KLF] Shag Times

In this case, considering you can't visit a shop and buy Shag Times, and also since the CD is one of those that is known to have laser-rot and working copies are becoming more and more scarce, maybe it's not such a big deal. I don't think it would be much fun to find a used copy of Shag Times, lay out some big money for it, only to find it's too deteriorated to play. Then there's the whole K and L of KLF, but that's another issue altogether. I think most of the fans on this list would love to be able to walk into a store and buy a copy of WTIL Story or WKTJ on a pristine, crystal-clear CD. But it's not like we have that option. Maybe it doesn't bother me much because I bought my copy of Shag Times for $4 from a store that thought it was an EP. If I'd forked out $50 or so (which I believe I sold it for many years ago) I might be a little irritated. Who knows... jr

It was just a tongue-in-cheek reflection on how much things have changed on the list over the best part of a decade. The list used to buzz with discussion of the best collector shops to vist - how much things were worth - the joy in tracking down a rarity you had been after for years. That has all changed now - you can download almost an entire collection at the touch of a button. I'm not saying it's good, I'm not saying it's bad. For me, I had fun, but it cost a lot! I think you would have to apply different points of view depending on what is up/downloaded. As long as an item is available in stores, I am happy to pick up the original release, even after downloading the mp3(s). Most of the rare items from the KLF's back catalogue are either unavailable or sold at exorbitant prices. The new Atomizer single on the other hand can easily be picked up on eBay or Amazon.co.uk for example. -------- Thomas Touzimsky My head is spinnin' so My feet don't touch the ground My eyes is blinded by the light My hearin' deafened by the sound My body's shakin' like a leaf My hearts been beatin' out of time My blood's been boilin' up inside And I've been fearin' for my life

I remember finding my 1987 cassette for $14 and the joy I felt, sure I coulda gotten it in mp3 (and eventually did to preserve the cassette), but collectability is number one :) On Mon, Oct 20, 2003 at 07:12:13AM +0100, Simon Daw wrote:

Just my thruppence worth. I have JAMS CD3 (without disc-rot it seems) and JAMS CD4 (sadly, with some yellowing although it still plays okay at the moment) both of which cost me more than normal RRP prices (i.e. I won them on eBay auctions). Having RM's (or anyone's) FTP server is fantastic as - for me at least - collecting is more about owning the original item then having the track (which may explan why I was prepared to go to £923 for PT3 a couple of months ago). It also gives me the best of both worlds as I can keep my collection safely tucked away in protective cases while still being able to download the same tracks, listen to them for a while, bin them, and download them again some other time. Also, didn't Mancentral (RIP) have MP3's on-line? I seem to remember downloading parts of the White Room demos cassette from it a few years back... I don't think KLF Communications would have a problem with this (I'm sure you'd know by now) and, hey, give it another 60 years and it all be in the public domain anyway. Actually, don't some of the early JAMs releases say something like "in the name of Mu, we hereby liberate these sounds from any copyright protection..."? God bless you RM for your hard-disk space, let's just hope your backups are working! ;-) Chris
One of my housemates got a new game for his gamecube called "Viewtiful Joe". In the second or third level you have to save the underground city of MU from an evil shark. It's a pretty good game, but the design of it graphically is amazing. Too bad I have no patience for playing video games. -ecna -non serviam- ecnalubmatic [dot] com
