Re: Re: Live footage (was Deep Shit)
A long time ago, someone on this list sent me a CDR of KLF stuff (sorry, can't remember who) and an 8 minute mpeg of this footage was included with. From what I recall, Andy is a bit unsure about having this footage in the public domain (sorry if I'm speaking for you here, Andy) as it was apparently footage recorded by the KLF themselves and submitted to "The Word" (TV show of the early nineties) for showing, but they rejected it. Anyway, here's a quick description ... The first scene appears to be filmed in Trancentral, with Jimmy, Bill and Cress and various others congregating round first a road map ("that's where the rave is folks" says Bill) and then a bag of money (the infamous Scottish pound notes?) It looks late at night, and maybe taken inside a van rather than in the Stockwell Squat. Cressida is wearing a distinctive blood red top - can't remember if it has a JAMs or KLF logo on it. We then cut to the rave (Chipping Norton?) with about a minute of footage of just flashing lights and strobes, and 808 State playing audibly in someone's DJ set. Then an announcer says something like "KLF in the middle of the field ... playing all their smash hits, check it out party people!" and we cut to Bill and Jimmy atop a 20-foot rig. Hanging over this are a couple of keyboards, Bill is wearing his "Martin Bormann" leather jacket and Jimmy is wearing his trapper's hat. There's also a huge disco ball and some dry ice, but it all looks rather wobbly. The footage is shot from the ground, and we hear people cheering as Bill and Jimmy play the intro of "Jersualem" (the vocal version from "Waiting") and then launch into a pure trance "What Time is Love". The crowd cheer, but the sound seems muted and people are shouting: "Pump it up!" Neither seem to be playing keyboards, just adjusting knobs and laughing and smiling. Bill keeps drinking from a beer bottle. The next bit of footage is a bit wobbly as it takes lots of shots of the legs of the scaffolding the KLF are on top of ("WTIL" is still playing though - very percussive, sometimes reduced to just a 120BPM clicking and thumping sound). Then we hear Cressida shout "Free money! Free money" and Bill and Jimmy empty a bucket over the side of their keyboards, and it flutters down to the crowd, who seem a bit lacklustre about picking the money up. There's an abrupt cut and a few shots of them playing "3 AM Eternal", but it's a lot less coherent that WTIL. There's the cries of "Eternaaaaaaaal", followed by some Space-y samples. Two or three seconds of people dancing to the Pure Trance mix, and then many bodies swaying and swooping to the Blue Danube which has obviously been dropped into the tune (this would have been performed around about the time KLF5R was initially released, I think). Then, after another few seconds footage of the lighting rig, the tape stops after about 8 minutes of play. Date of recording: Saturday 1st October 1989, I think. Hope this is of help, Thomas. Presumably, it was available on file-share at some point, hence it appearing on the CDR I received. John

affraid i'll have to rule myself out of this one thomas
Ah, my bad. No donut.
But an interesting description. Guess I should add this to the FAQ as well.
a very simple litmus test would be to ask Andy Lee if he has ever seen a flexi... it would beggar belief that if they had produced 500 flexi discs that one wouldnt have been given to Scott!
Oh yeah, totally forgot about Andy. Did want to mail him anyway, as he mentioned some video footage of Bill & Jimmy playing live. There once was a snippet of this on Mancentral IIRC, but he apparently had a longer version (the snippet only being some seconds).
Andy?

Yes, I have it. What is the footage? It's a home movie from a PA at a rave at Chipping Norton. How did I get it? From when I was working at Appearing. Every time a single was released The Word would ask for a KLF PA and every time they would get turned down. As an appeasement they were offered this video clip of the wacky pranksters throwing money to a crowd of ravers. Neither Bill or Jimmy owned a VHS recorder but I did, so I got despatched to Trancentral in a cab with my VCR to meet up with someone with a camcorder to copy the film. The camcorder owner did not turn up but it was nice to have tea with Cress & see TC from the inside. I left my VCR at trancentral and returned to work. A few days later I got it all back with the tape. I made an office copy and also a copy for myself. I think Tim has got my original tape and if he's OK with it I'll share it with you all. I've got a nice VHS/DVD recorder upstairs so I'll recapture it this weekend. Might do the Omnibus documentary as well. If I'm feeling really generous I might let you all in on my Space 5.1 DVD as well. Tim, it's over to you. Nice! That's another "me too please" of course. If this makes more sense logistically, I could spare some space on our server so those who are fine with an mpeg copy instead of a VHS tape or CDr can download it from there. :-)
If I'm feeling really generous I might let you all in on my Space 5.1 DVD as well.
Could you please describe what this looks/sounds like? I guess this is a standard DVD playable on a DVD player, featuring a 5.1 version of Space? ..::// Thomas Touzimsky The Top Five Country Songs #4 "It's hard to kiss the lips at night that chewed your ass out all day long"

Didn't you send me that clip also, big man? Along with a clip of 'Madrugada Eterna' with scenes from 'Apocalypse Now' which I was somehow reminded of recently. (Tyg digs out the CD...) tbc.

Andy?
