i been playing a lot of GTA:VCS on the psp for the last few months and on the Fresh FM radio station, there's a track by Man Parish, I think it's Boogie Down Bronx Anyway, there's a bit near the middle of that song, sounds like a sample, that's also used in the instrumental of the Porpoise Song that's on Shag Times
is the sample used in the JAMs track taken from the Man Parish one? or do they both sample that from some earlier song? and if so, does anyone know what it is?
This is from vinyl vulture website about the song: Man Parrish "Boogie Down Bronx" (Boiling Point Records, 1984) "A second entry in this chart as Parrish this time turns his hand to production, teaming up with the Freeze Force Crew to deliver a perfect slice of electro hip hop. A fast paced rhyme detailing the lifestyle of a Bronx hip-hopper is added to Parrish's catchy keyboard melodies and robotic voices. A great 12" for the breakdancers that secured a release on bothsides of the Atlantic, it being licenced from Sugarscoop to Boiling Point, a subsidiary of Polydor." (source: http://www.vinylvulture.co.uk/beats/electro.php) As this song is dated 1984 and The JAMMs/The KLF/2K.... didn't actually come into the music scene till about 1987 (20 years of The KLF this year!) - with the release of "1987:What the ***K's going on" I would guess that the KLF probably sampled it from Man Parrish.

oh yes, absolutely i was fairly sure Bill and Jimmy lifted it from the Man Parrish track - but it stands out so much from the rest of the Boogie Down Bronx track that I assumed that Man Parrish has sampled it from somewhere else. however, you're article mentions "Parrish's catchy keyboard melodies" so perhaps it was infact original in that song. a shame, i was looking forward to hearing what a song built around that small melody would sound like. oh well, thanks anyway for the info
