The bottle of Isle of Jura malt that I purchased and gave the contents away to the guests attending the first ever gathering of the Stewart Home Society cost £23.00 Very nice it was too! :-)
Hmm.... that's why the ancients of MuMu went there? unfortunately I do not like Whiskey, why am I going to Scotland? :) Wouter ----- Original Message ----- From: ThePositiveVoid@cs.com To: klf@mailman.xmission.com Sent: Sunday, March 10, 2002 11:55 PM Subject: Re: [KLF] Isle of Jura it's the legendary isle where all the ancient kings of scotland are buried and its malt whiskey is as fine as i have tasted

I think, genuinely, that Bill went there first of all because his old school friend had a large country house there, and he liked to visit him from time to time. Good place for a holiday if you want to get away from it all, not answer telephone calls from your plugger, muck about on tractors and shoot some ambient video on the beach. cheers -- Stuart Young and Michelle Ardern, say.map@ihug.co.nz 66a Sackville Street, Tel: +64 (0)9 376 8100 Grey Lynn, Auckland, NZ Stuey is webmaster of the NZ Green Party - now redesigned: http://www.greens.org.nz/ And webmaster of his own personal website - a cobweb site: http://easyweb.easynet.co.uk/~stuey/

and it has three hills on it, the three Paps of Jura, and only 100 people, and 1 hotel, and most intriguing, you have to get 2 ferries to get to it. Probably a nicer climate than some of the more famous more northern isles. Very out of the way. cheers ThePositiveVoid@cs.com wrote:

I wonder if Wouter is still serious about heading to the Isle of Jura now he's heard the best of what's on it, and if so, whether he'd be the first person to go all the way to the Isle of Jura just because Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty went there a few years before? Or has some other KLF fan already made that journey for just that reason? Well, I am trying to find out if it is worth the trouble. The main reason why I am in Scotland will the international mini meeting, as I am a enthousiastic mini-driver. After the meeting we will participate in a tour, but as we have some days off I wonder if it better to go sailing on on of the lakes or do the trip to Jura. I must say that all your reactions make me more enthousiatic than I already was about Scotland! Am I getting off-topic now? Wouter

Really? And is Minnie Driver enthusiastic too? Most Mini drivers are enthusiastic and excited. Maybe it's because there's so little legroom that there's always too much blood being pushed back into their head.

Although I've not been to Jura I've been to other islands off Scotland and I'm guessing that they won't be far different, and with that in mind I'd say that you might enjoy it depending on what you actually want to see. If you're expecting civilisation and depth of culture and broad rolling scenery and epic landscapes- then you could stay on the Scottish mainland and get that as well. Scottish islands are mostly just damp bits of grassy pointy rock and the few scant residents there spend their time inventing new dialects and creating the perfect whisky in order to forget how lonely they are. I dare say there are people on Jura who went to live there to get away from tourists, rather than to attract them. If you're taking your Mini, then according to my map Jura has one road (the A846) which is about 20 miles long. Driving up and down it might keep you entertained for an hour or two... maybe you'll pass people who are also doing the same thing to cheer themselves up. Half of Jura appears to be covered in trees. No way, definately others have been there first - lots of Scotish outdoor types who also like the KLF, but I bet that people have gone from further away too. The question really is, how far have people travelled to go to Jura? Anyone remember when Nick followed the road trip in Bad Wisdom. I bet US fans have followed the road trip in Chill Out too. If you're going to visit Scotland you could also go to: the town in Galloway where Bill grew up Cape Wrath, where they pushed the car with the kontract over the edge Peterhead, where Bill went to sea from as an teenage fisherman You could also nip over to Northern Ireland to stop by the Cushendell Tower. - Do they still own it? aloha! I'm sure that I read an article about Jura somewhere fairly recently that said that the easiest, quickest and cheapest way to get there from the mainland was a plane from Edinburgh or something. The K Foundation got about 5 minutes on BBC2 last night as part of their series about Brit Art as it mentioned the Turner Prize and Rachel Whiteread`s "House".
