Re: [KLF] Talking on Porpoise Song
Sounds like they might have tried to remove the vocals for the instrumental version and not done it 100%! I wonder how much of the story of him being a trawlerman was exaggerated? I know the song says he sailed from Peterhead, but even at the height of the KLF's fame I never heard anyone in the area say "that KLF bloke used to be on one of our boats". Even the notorious "guide to knowhere" doesn't mention it for the Peterhead listing (and it's usually fairly exhaustive - it mentions Bill's father at various points in listings for Newton Stewart and Crosbie.) It's Bill isn't it? He does the lyrics as a kind of monologue rather than singing them...
Yep, its just the same as the Who Killed the JAMMs? track.
Yeah, I just put on the WKTJ version, and indeed it's the same bit, but they're really heavily buried in the History version, inaudible on everything I've listened on but this one pair of headphones I've got.
Thanks!

Indeed that's what it sounds like, especially since it's so far at the low end, frequency-wise, as if someone just scraped off the highs, but I can't really isolate what they were sampling at that point that they were trying to reuse without the vocals. juli.

He (allegedly) worked as a trawlerman when he was 17, I believe, which would be before he went to art school, maybe it was just a few months, a summer job between school and college, maybe he didn't even last the summer, after discovering the reality wasn't like reading Jack London, so wouldn't surprise me if no-one in Peterheed remembered a pimply schoolboy cheers -- Stuart Young, Michelle Ardern & Felix Ardern-Young (4) Live at: 16, Seacombe Road, Pt Chev, Auckland, NZ Phone: +64 (0)9 849 9020 say.map@ihug.co.nz Graphic and Web design, Web development and hosting: http://www.pixelandgrain.co.nz/ Stuey's personal website - a cobweb site: http://easyweb.easynet.co.uk/~stuey/ Any views expressed in this email are those of the author and not of any of the organisations we are involved with. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. I remember there was a radio interview in which he talked about this. Got to listen to it again tonight so I can do a brief transcript. What I remember for sure is that he did in fact not run away, so at least that part of the story is not entirely true. ..::// Thomas Touzimsky A best man's speech should be like a mini-skirt; short enough to be interesting, but long enough to cover the bare essentials.
