Kylie Said Trance = Make It Rain '91?
Anyone else thinks that "Kylie Said Trance" and "Make It Rain" were the same song at some point? They both share the same chords, are in the same key, and the former even features snippets of Maxine's vocals from "Make It Rain" ('Oh, oh, oh, won't you [make it rain]') which don't appear anywhere else. I can see how Bill and Jimmy would take "Kylie Said Trance" after the single bombed and reworked it for JAMS LP6, though that doesn't quite explain why "Kylie Said Trance" already featured said snippets. Thoughts? ..::// Thomas Touzimsky "My wife is passionately fond of flowers, and I always give her a punch on her birthday." - Letter in daily paper
Good timing, Thomas. For some reason, I've been a bit KSTJ-obsessed over the past few days (I've listened to every remix including the demo ones more than a couple times). I had that same thought this weekend as well. It doesn't surprise me that Bill and Jimmy's original plan failed, as I've always found KSTJ to be a pretty dull tune, but "Kylie Said Trance" and its related remixes are pretty top-shelf work by the guys so it's no surprise they'd re-use the best parts for other tracks. In a way, I used to think "Make It Rain" didn't seem to have the same roots as the other Pure Trance tunes, so it makes sense that it has a slightly different basis. -- Micah Stupak micah@benthic.cc On 23 Jan 12, at 03.25, Thomas Touzimsky wrote:

Somebody posted somewhere an early 4:30 instrumental of It's "Grim Up North "with the title of "Turn-Up the Strobe" which is interesting. These guys would completely discard some finished works and endlessly recycle others. Just an aside... Dan On Jan 23, 2012, at 11:47 AM, Micah Stupak <micah@benthic.cc> wrote:

I think that's just a looped and cleaned-up edit of the credits track from the Stadium House Trilogy, unless Adam (?) confirms otherwise. ..::// Thomas Touzimsky "[B]rewed with pride, yet with furious impatience and bad temper. Jeez Thomas, if you just quickly threw this together, that's phenomenal. Spend some more time on this, stretch it out, give it a more ambient intro (Kylie in a Trance?) and drop "Make It Rain" in halfway through and you'll give me a new top five KLF track. ;) -- Micah Stupak micah@benthic.cc On 23 Jan 12, at 13.54, Thomas Touzimsky wrote:

More on the Kylie/Make it Rain tip… I've got a pile of mp3s downloaded from Mancentral back in the day of KSTJ remixes, but many of these aren't in the old-timey Lazlo discog or discogs.com. Any guesses on sources of: Kylie in a Trance (Remix remix 1) Kylie in a Trance (Remix remix 2) Kylie said MU It's a shame that the upload of 10R to the LL is all beat up. Anyone have a crisp-sounding one? Side B of 10RR is up there, too, and sounds awesome. Can that uploader also handle side B too? Next item: Has anyone ever thought about the influence of Mark Stent on some of these tracks? It comes to mind because of "Make It Rain". I always thought it was one of the fiercest beats in the canon, and, well, it doesn't seem too Bill-and-Jimmy-ish. On the other hand, it does sound like some of Mark's later work (with Laibach on NATO, for example). Anyone think he already came in with those skills or he picked them up from Bill and Jimmy and used them well? -- Micah Stupak micah@benthic.cc
