If I remember correctly,and its the KLF vs ENT single that you are referring to,then it was only released in a limited number of one sided black 7".I recall that the deal was that you sent £2 mail order,and if you were too late to get a copy,then you got a melon instead.Whether anyone actually got a melon remains a mystery to me..but I DID get the single. Also,around the same time,there were a couple of T-shirts released ("Who killed the Jamms 120BPM" and the "Shag Shag Shag" logo) intended to raise funds towards the cost of making the White Room film.After a lengthy wait,I got the t-shirts with a note off Bill saying "Paul,As we have been such lazy bastards please find your T-shirts enclosed PLUS your cheque" I was well impressed! I have other letters somewhere answering relevant questions of the time,regarding limited (or non-existent) releases in the late 80s.I shall dig them out as they might answer a few questions posted on this list recently
