But by 'FTP list', didn't the original poster mean a discussion list (like this one), but exclusively for announcements and discussion of your FTP site (nobody else's), so that this discussion list could be freed from having so many regular posts about your FTP site? I think you've completely and understandably misunderstood what is meant by "FTP list", hence this confusion. Stuart.

I did not hear any mention of another KLF FTPs on this list. I know of a few other FTP sites on other lists that KLF material, but are only accessible via the other lists. I will not give their Ip addresses out to this list. A KLF FTP Server list is a little drastic Don't you think? I can shut my server down to the list as a blanket password. If that will solve the problem? Sorry for the posts. I will not post again about material I have placed on my sever. Sorry that a few people have to ruin it for everyone. Personal accounts will be the only way to access the material. They will be limited to only 10 more accounts. SO in that case, someone else can set up server from the material they get from me to mirror my ftp. I thought that I was very gracious to host material for over a 15-month span. I guess trying to share music other than KLF material with KLF aficionados was a problem. No more stuff about it. The blanket KLF pass will expire this weekend. SO Get what material you can.

Ok how do we make this list?
I will also hold the closing of the KLF Project pass from closing till we are through with this discussion.
ok .. if it has really come to it .. i can host a seperate list .. but i URGE everyone to calm down about this. the people on this list who use the RM's FTP server only know about it because they heard about it on this list. to remove discussion about it from here is to deprive new KLF List users access to the FTP. yeah .. sure that's fine for us cos we've got a hold of everything we want now .. but i for one think RM's contribution and dedication to this list and its members is invaluable. If i was him i'd be well pissed off right now. chris
Oh dear. Here we go again. I seem to remember a similar argument over the remix Kompetition emails only a while ago. We got around that by putting [KOMP] in the subject field of all relevant messages. Perhaps the same could be used here, but with [FTP] instead. That way, anyone who doesn't want the FTP emails can simply filter them out, and those who are interested can spot them more easily. Everyone's a winner. CanÂt we all... just... get along? (hehe) I agree that creating a new list is a bad idea as it will end up duplicating posts, etc. I thought that the purpose of this list was to discuss the KLF. If RMS wants to let people know about new material heÂs made available, good on him. The same goes to the klf.de boys  if they want to advertise the fact that the live mp3s (etc) are available on their site, fair enough. At leats it keeps things going... I think that both resources are a huge benefit to this list (although personally I havenÂt had much luck accessing the ftp, but thatÂs due to my crappy isp... or ftp s/ware...) and I think that promoting/discussing them here should be encouraged. As for the email that Torsten replied to, it was clearly marked ÂOff Topic as it was coldcut related, not KLF. If people donÂt want to know about off topic issues, donÂt read them  this has been suggested many times before here... But you may miss out on some fantastic music  your loss ;-) Just my 2 cents... I think that would be the far easiest, yet most practical way to divide klf posts from ftp posts that are not related to the KLF directly. There's no need to change anything, subscribe somewhere or shut down anything with it. And now, could we all please calm down again ? Please ? :-) --- Thomas Touzimsky same shit // different day
a quick reality check for all you people who are bitching about this... Its a mighty nice think that stringer is doing to even host the material and the constant bickering about the occasional post concerning content/access to his ftp is really silly and demeaning. I'm surprised he hasn't chosen to pull up stakes and tell us all to kiss his ass. I look around and I don't see much "new" KLF information out there, a remix here and there but access to the materials already out there in such an open area like a semi-public ftp is a blessing and should be appreciated as such. Sorry for the inflamatory nature of this email but enough is enough. the thought of making an announce list for ftp information concerning an ftp that is to a high degree "on-topic" for this list is just downright silly. It the posts bother you that much, filter rmstringer to your trash box, not something i'd recommend but leave it alone so that those of us that do appreciate his contributions can continue to benefit from his kindness. v/r lysergic ********** Experimental Ambient Bliss! ********** The Lysergic Dream - Cult of the Dying Streetlamp The new album out NOW!!! on Uncle Buzz Records Sound Samples at http://www.zombieproject.com/lysergic

it is. havent used his services but it is nice of him to host it. we shouldnt forget that. but i dont think thats whats being debated. at least it shouldnt be.

i cant remember when i joined this list but theres been at least three 'big ftp sites' that i can recall come and go. its the nature of the net. things gets created, grow, reach critical mass and go boom (usually). then it starts again. <more detail> i guess i'm a bit blase about his site cos a) i've never used it, and b) i did use the sites i refered to above. as such, anything from rmstringer with ftp in the title, i read last, when i have time, if i have time. its not personal. any other subject line from rmstringer, i read with the rest of the list, its just the ftp stuff i leave. </more detail>
such. Sorry for the inflamatory nature of this email but enough is enough.
bah - this stuff happens. it'll be ftp one week, html email the next, kompetitions and etrains the next. we havent even had any threats to unsub yet.
the thought of making an announce list for ftp information concerning an ftp that is to a high degree "on-topic" for this list is just downright silly.
it is. the answer already exists, and has been used by mailing lists since the beginning of mailing lists.... <all old list users can skip this bit> <all old geeks can skip it too> <any one who used fidonet can skip> <puts on his old bastard hat> why you youngsters refuse to use (or learn?) standard list netiquette i dont know.... in my day mutter mutter before i got up mutter mutter and then mutter mutter.... preface your subject lines. just like the list daemon inserts [KLF] you too can preface the subject so people can see at a glance what the post is about. those with limited bandwidth can then make a better guess at whether they should use any of their bandwidth reading your post. standard accepted prefaces are [FTP] [ANNOUNCE] [INFO] [OFFTOPIC] [OT] [WHINGE] feel free to use others, just enclose in square brackets. since we're here, some other rules that nobody taught the latecomers... do reply inline do not post in html do snip replies so that unnecessary stuff is removed DO SNIP LIST FOOTERS - we do not need to see how to unsubcribe 4 times!!! do keep sigs to 4 lines. 6 if you really must. and in case you missed it - dont post in html :) back to the regularly scheduled email..
It the posts bother you that much, filter rmstringer to your trash box,
i, for one, dont mind the posts. what i do mind is the constant abuse of list netiquette (by just about everyone)[1]. i only bitch about it when it gets really bad or an oppurtunity presents itself :) but seriously, if the posts were headed with a prefix as above, i would be incredably happy, and i suspect others would be nearly as happy too. those who are bothered can then create mail rules and filter them away. for the record, i wouldnt use rules on the ftp posts, but i rarely read them anyway. rmstringer - you do post an awful lot of ftp messages. i'm guessing thomas was fed up with seeing so many and replied to the list. i'm too lazy to go count how many this week but you gotta admit its certainly regular. just preface it and keep everyone happy? just for the record again, whilst i get busy and am useless at getting physical stuff done (and then the mail loses stuff but that's another story :( - if anyone comes to Melbourne and presents me with either a big hdd or a lot of blank cdrs, they're welcome to everything i've got. i've copied the entire lot before, and if requested i'll do it again. we're sposed to be fans for $Deity's sake - share the music. going back to work brendan 1 - what i've learnt is that it doesn't matter what ppl agree to do, we then get a sudden influx of new people who don't know what to do, and it starts all over again :(
