I must admit, I don't know the song in question, but Bill's links to Elvis have always been strong (if only one way). There's the "In the Ghetto" sample on "Chill Out", and also sections of "45" and "Bad Wisdom" that deal with Bill's attitude towards the King (basically, he never wants to own any Elvis records - just come across them by accident on the radio or on jukeboxes, etc). And of course there's "The Blizzard King" on Kalevala Records. It's highly possible that "King of Joy" is an Elvis reference (the title even suggests it) and there were other contemporaneous examples around (the Smiths' "Rushome Ruffians" and Elvis' "(Marie's the Name) of His Latest Flame" is an obvious one). Drummond calling himself "King Boy D" I always thought was more to do with the Beastie Boys than Elvis - but you never know. It might even be a slight reference to the Orange Order (with his Dad being a minister and all that).

On Bill's LP The Man, there's a track called "The King Of Joy" which has some similarities with Elvis' track "I Just Can't Help Believin'" (live version, probably from his Vegas era): the gospel choir, the trumpets/horns, the melody, etc. When Elvis went to Vegas, he left Bill eith the crown? Or is it just my ears? Any other examples?
