They are all now on my "awkward" ftp server for "all" to get. KLFUser is log/pass. Address = renigademain.dyndns.org One more point. IF an FTP server is so easy to set up, then why don't more people do it? I mean, others have said that they wanted to make a mirror and I have always said that I would mail them the files on Cd, yet, No one has ever done it except Olav and his server is up no more. Just a question. I am over it now. Back to the regularly scheduled KLF information. FTP server is very easy to set up, but for a larger audience it is a rather inefficient method to distribute data, especially as I doubt any of us has a server directly connected to some Internet backbone. As I said in the past, I'd much rather see a possibly private (as in "list only") peer-to-peer distribution network (BitTorrent? Or perhaps WASTE?) be taken into use, as it allows good download speeds with much less personal bandwidth usage - at least as long as there are people seeding the files. (Not to mention that in case of the tracker being down, DHT makes it possible to still download!) But, but but. Considering that last time this discussion died pretty fast, I was left under the impression that most of the people don't either feel this kind of advanced distribution network would be necessary. :) So, uh, if anyone at any point feels this would be a nice and convenient method of distribution (RS is a nice service apart from the fact that the files expire, don't they?) - let me know. -Juha
Well I do not see Bittorent as an "effective" way to distribute large amounts of files. Single or zipped yes, but with zipped collections, you still need a large amount of bandwidth. I set up a torrent server and it worked ok, but to have to make torrents for every file or collection, that sucks.
