Come on. Simon..I didnt mention X$X at all just then nor is it relevant to what I was saying. What I'm saying is that The KLF were exponents of plagiarism as an artform. For example, the use of Jimi Hendrix's guitar riff in 'J&A' is taking the piss out of copyright law subtly in the same way as The Jams sampled things gratuitously. The thread in Drummond and Cauty's work is much more about 'kicking out the jams' in regard to what you can and cant use than any conventional notions of 'originality'. B&J wanted to fuck with the music business and plagiarism was their main tool. If you think this is me insulting their achievements, then all I can say is QUITE THE CONTRARY!! Ray Simon Glass <tygerbc@yahoo.com> wrote: Ray I know your crusade for all things X$X continues (which i'm all for) but to say the KLF didn't "originate" much is short-sighted to say the least. Just from a musical perspective they were some of the earliest exponents of the cut 'n' paste ethic (on this sceptred isle anyway) and were pioneers of 'ambient house' (often mixed 'live' no less) along with Alex Paterson. The Brit Awards, The Rites Of Mu, the Turner Prize, the million quid etc etc...sure there were reference points but a great deal of originality too. Now the recent 'activity' of X$X interests me too but to describe the 'new' music as 'derivative' would be an understatement to say the least, and there is a creeping feeling that certain commercial motivations are playing a part. You pledged your cash for those promos yet, dude? =) PS- Interesting Negativland quote in a previous post regarding U2...English? Huh? Raymond Baal <raymondbaal@yahoo.co.uk> wrote: "Everything you know is wrong" was the title of an 1967 LP by The Firesign Theatre, much loved by Robert Anton Wilson so that he made reference to it in several of his books. The slogan was a contemporary underground phrase, originally in reference to the Vietnam War. as in "Everything you know about Vietnam is wrong". Wilson, who extended it to make the point that everything we "know" is the result of what we're TOLD, is probably the main reason it went forward into such things as ZOO TV. As usual the KLF didn't originate this (or much else) since their main love was to recombine existing things <insert 1000 examples of KLF plagiarism here> --Ray KLF- gyerek <klfboy@hotmail.com> wrote: My first reply went only to PVC, for which I'd like to apologize... According to a Q magazine interview the slogan was "Everything you know about U2 is wrong", but the band surely used it without the "about U2" part... "That's the letter U and the numeral 2...these guys are from England and who gives a shit!" (Negativland: U2)

I intend using the quote "Everything you know is wrong" on a document concerning Ontology and Semantic communication.
I believe this is a quote from the KLF? Or is it in turn a quote from someone else? I remember seeing it on the screens of the U2 Zoo TV live concert.
