Yes you're probably right. If the CDs were stacked in their brown/black trays, then the top surface of the CD with the SPACE logo would be in direct contact with the back of the tray above it. If they were like this for sometime before being clipped into the outer jewel case then the ink in the word SPACE could have reacted with the plastic in the tray above. It just depends how long they were stored like this as to whether you get the image or not I guess. Well, there I was browsing E-bay for rare KLF stuff, and I see someone selling the Space CD (not me, I hasten to add, so this isn't a self advertisement):

Anyway, he mentions that the CD case is broken on the item he's selling, so he was going to find a new case for it, but he noticed that on the backholder was the name 'SPACE' in mirrored writing, as thus http://i7.ebayimg.com/03/i/00/c8/40/8a_1_s.JPG
Well, I've looked at my CD, and it's exactly the same!
So, maybe this is a good way of finding out if you own the original or the bootleg?
Does anyone out there who's got a bootleg copy of 'Space' on CD still have 'SPACE' backwards on that bit of plastic?
You learn something new every day!
L8rs,
Nick ;-)
