Plus, 3 AM is the time most people are alone, and the emergency services are at their slowest and least responsive.

"London by night on my own, London by night all alone" ... I always imagined the song was about wondering around the capital after a night in a club.  But maybe it *is* about dying in your bed in the early morning ... anything is possible, I supposed (and maybe "Go to Sleep" has similar connotations) ...

I'm off to read "Christmas Carol" now ... this is all getting rather Dickensian in my mind's eye!

3am is also the most common time for people to die (of natural causes, of course).  This may be related to the fact that one hour after getting kicked out of a club the kebab starts to do its thing, but isn't it something more to do with the fact that the body's immune system is at it's lowest at this time?
