I went ahead and downloaded the "de-mastered" White Room, and as I think most of the folks who've already commented here suspected, it's just been run through a compression plugin. Not enough that it's going to replace "Figure Of Eight" as the canonical Loudness War example on YouTube, but you can hear the loss of dynamics on "Build A Fire" (the track on the album where they're most likely to be missed). I'm not gonna bother downloading Chill Out, as that album's even less likely to be improved by this kind of pointless fiddling. Remind me again -- what exactly is supposed to be wrong with the original mastering?
