Thanks for that! I'd always wondered. But in that case, is the hit version of "It's Grim Up North", with its "Part 1" and "Part 2", a reference to Wylie's own "The Story of the Blues" (Parts 1 & 2)? I always thought it was an affectionate tribute to the Fall, and their single "Hit the North" (which has a part 1 & part 2), but maybe I'm wrong!
More likely a tribute to old blues & funk singles, where if the song was too long to fit on one side of a 45, it'd simply be split across two sides. James Brown, for example, did this a lot.
