You first have to understand the huge amounts of money they lost by withdrawing all KLF Communications releases from sale in 1992. If you can comprehend that then you can see how easy it would be for them to burn it. Compared to future record sales, burning the million was nothing. Unfortunately that was too subtle for the average person to understand. It went right over their heads and was quickly forgotten. Most people were too stupid to realize the KLF threw away MULTIPLE millions by doing it. J&B realized if they wanted to make the average person understand enormity of throwing away millions they had to simplify it into a physical act.
Hmm, I'm not too sure. By running their own record company, they made far more profit on their singles and albums than anyone else in the charts. While their backcatalogue is very dear to us on this list, it doesn't get the kind of radioplay and sales that many no.1 acts do (especially true of the Timelords single btw.). The backcatalogue is still in shops worldwide, the only difference is that it appears as imports here in the UK. What they really did when they deleted everything was to simply hand over the day to day running of their backcatalogue in Britain to Arista. - Andy_R
