I know theres a list of live gigs somewhere on-line (can't remember the link, though),
That would be mine, as you have already mentioned... http://easyweb.easynet.co.uk/~stuey/klf/live.htm I'll update it including the info from your excellent list too.
Sunday October 1st 1989 Chipping Norton Rave, as featured in the video where the KLF throw £1 Scottish notes on the crowd (or dollar bills, according to Andy. Not sure which story is true).
Both KLF Communications Info Sheet #11 and Matthew Collin's book Altered State say it was Scottish 1 pound notes (see below for quotes). This would make sense because (a) Bill is Scottish and (b) at this point the Bank of England had stopped making 1 pound notes and only made coins - the fact that the Scottish banks still made 1 pound notes was interesting and (c) as any Scottish person who has tried to spend a Scottish bank note in England will tell you - you often have trouble with shop assistants who don't recognise the money. Same for the Northern Island banknotes. Info Sheet #11: "the huge orbital raves, at which The KLF became a regular live attraction, blasting their audience with polystyrene pellets some weeks, showering them with Scottish pound notes at others." Matthew Collin's book Altered State - The Story of Ecstasy Culture and Acid House (Serpent's Tail, London, New York, ISBN 1-85242-3777-3, UKP 10.99, www.serpentstail.com): "To the north of London, the Helter Skelter party brought an awesome line up of performers to a muddy plough field in Oxfordshire. The incongruity was sweet, seeing these house icons climbing up a rickety ladder onto the back of a flat bed lorry - in open farmland! - to sing and play. ... There were post-punk pranksters, The KLF, who demanded their UKP 1000 fee upfront, in Scottish pound notes, upon each of which they scribbled the message 'we love you childrn' before throwing them to the crowd, a dress rehearsal for their burning of 1 million pounds in a situationist art statement a few years later. Despite the drizzle and the turn-out (only 4000!), the mood was elevated." -- This is the webmail account of Stuart Young, Michelle Ardern & Felix Ardern-Young (2) 42B, Sefton Ave, Grey Lynn, Auckland, NZ Phone: +64 (0)9 376 8100 say.map@ihug.co.nz Stuey's personal website - a cobweb site: http://easyweb.easynet.co.uk/~stuey/
