After springtime's "is the KLF behind Pete Doherty?" internet rumour, it seems that the girl group "the Pipettes" were in part originally inspired by one of their members reading "The Manual": http://enjoyment.independent.co.uk/music/features/article1174208.ece Now, they certainly hvae more wit and intellgence about them than Doherty, but as has already been pointed out in the UK music press, musically they're not a million miles away from the girls on the "Sheila's Wheels" advert. Imagine a cross between the Beverly Sisters and an all-girl B-52s, or even Bill Drummond's WEA A&R-era protege, Mari Wilson, serenading the troops coming home in 1945. Not my cup of tea - but they ARE a real group. John
