I remember the NME/Melody Maker both having AWTIL? as their number one "rock single" during their 1992 end-of-year polls, far above anything by Nirvana or Pearl Jam or the Chill Peppers or Sugar or whoever was flavour of the month then ... You used to get it played in a lot of rock clubs.
I didn't know about the Axel Rose thing either. That would have been pretty special.
Possibly less special, but still interesting, is that Bill & Jimmy wanted to get newly-left-Take-That Robbie involved in their "Help" compilation track in 1995. According to "45", Robbie was at home with his mum, nursing his Glasto/Oasis wounds, when Bill phoned up and got her on the phone. "Who are you?" she asked. "We're the KLF." "Never heard of you." "We used to be very big a few years ago ..."
