When scanning to get a matrix inscription, I've found the best way is to keep the scanner lid up and have the top of the record tilted up by about 3 cm (maybe use something of this height under the top of the record - I used a printer cartridge box!) This way the scanning beam hits the matrix at an angle which better reflects inscriptions. The matrix area should be positioned a bit below the center of the scanning area on a typical A4-size scanner. Peter
