I ..........The Daft Punk robots always reminded me on that chamber orchestra from the early 1980s that appeared as 18th century robotic violinists/oboeists and had a hit with something like "The Sinking of Venice" (although I'm so unsure of this, Google throws up nothing - anyone know the song I mean?) And I always thought the "White Room" movie escapade was the greatest of the KLF's many nods to the Pet Shop Boys - particularly their 1987 movie.
Although the chances are Daft Punk were influences by the PSB too!
Not sure about the song but I guess "Rondo Veneciano" was the combo you could take a closer look at.
