I have everything, right down to obscure b-sides, I ripped the vinyl myself and I have always considered them to be of good quality even though the vinyl rips are old WAV files.

That was my thinking, too: just high-bitrate FLACs initially and then the “remastering” process can be at a slower pace. Some people might not want pops and so on removed as well, so I figured keep the initial recordings available as well.

Can't advise as to storage, but in terms of the tracks themselves I think they should be made available unaltered, then the various audio geniuses on the list can tinker with them and upload their own "remasters."

Well, looks like there’s pretty good response to people wanting a good, HQ archive of KLF. Excellent!

Here’s how I think we should go:

I will make a master list of releases and then scattered tracks next week (I’m moving this weekend) and make it as a Google doc so folks can sign up for recording/ripping what is available.

I think it makes sense to go in stages. First start with the KLF, then move on to JAMs, Timelords, Disco 2000, etc. I’d also like to focus on the vinyl-only stuff first as that will be hardest to get. And, yes, nothing in-print (we all know what that is).

Who has a good idea for storage/distribution? Part of me thinks torrents aren’t the way to go — after the initial distribution is done (i.e. “I just ripped KLF005R, grab it here”), it’s a lot harder to get the tracks when people stop seeding. Being able to download them somewhere is a lot better, though of course it opens up the project to legal difficulties. I mean, Bill and Jimmy, odds are they won’t care (especially if Bill thinks we need to get over it ;) ), but lawyers can always get involved. Hm, do we have any Russian listmembers with server space? ;)

Any and all ideas are welcome. I’m looking forward to getting this rolling!
