Sounds like they might have tried to remove the vocals for the instrumental version and not done it 100%! I wonder how much of the story of him being a trawlerman was exaggerated? I know the song says he sailed from Peterhead, but even at the height of the KLF's fame I never heard anyone in the area say "that KLF bloke used to be on one of our boats". Even the notorious "guide to knowhere" doesn't mention it for the Peterhead listing (and it's usually fairly exhaustive - it mentions Bill's father at various points in listings for Newton Stewart and Crosbie.) Yeah, I just put on the WKTJ version, and indeed it's the same bit, but they're really heavily buried in the History version, inaudible on everything I've listened on but this one pair of headphones I've got.
