At a record fair in 1993/4 I purchase the two early
Brilliant 12"s ("Colours", their Rough Trade debut and "Wait For It", their
third single, and their second on Food). A long time later, I read that
Jimmy Cauty had NOTHING to do with these early sessions, and only came on board
with the tracks for "Kiss the Lips of Life" (and possibly "Soul Murder",
although I'm not sure). Soon after, I sold these two Brilliant singles
(because, let's be honest, they very definitely were NOT brilliant) and
have stuck to the "KSTLOL" singles (which I'm selling on ebay soon) ever since
...
Can anyone confirm for sure when Jimmy came on
board the Brilliant project? I just have this feeling that originally it
was a big, Killing Jokey band, and then was stripped down to a synth-pop
trio. Also, their label - Food. Is this the same label, owned by
Dave Balfe, that signed Blur in 1989? If so, were they a subsiduary of
Warners in the eighties and not in the nineties?
And FINALLY ... I wonder if there's anywhere we
could lobby or write to get "KTLOL" (and remixes!) reissued on CD. I
find it a little strange that this wasn't tried at the KLF's height (after all,
Creation did it with "The Man"). I'm sure most people here would go out
and buy it, for loyalty if nothing else. And put a "JIMMY KLF CAUTY"
sticker on it, and it would sell even more ...
Any ideas where we could write to?
