Dan,

you're da man !!!

I have unfortunately no experience in ripping Vinyl so you're on your own on that point.

Please don't take this personally, but I still have a strong issue with point 2. I mean surely Simon, who did at least the same amount of work and poured as much as heart into his project as Tim does on his, deserves the same respect, and yet you post his White Room OST in lossless ? How are they different ???

I suspect that it's because everyone is scared that Tim will stop releasing stuff every year if we share. But If he does it for no profit and only for funding, then where is the problem ???

Ill gladly donate every year if it means that we get rid of this ridiculous embargo around rare KLF material coming from Tim…. and we can distribute these as online files and not CDRs or DVDs which are so 90s :)

If however he's in it for the money, that would be an all different matter.

Cheers
Xavier

Cheers,
Xav

Hello my friends:
After reading everyone's comments, I have found myself quite inspired by the lively discussion. One point that has resonated with me is: people on this list have just been very poor at sharing over the years. Well, point taken.
Micah is working very hard to solve this problem and develop the ultimate KLF (and related) archive. However, until then I've decided to open my personal vaults and share my KLF collection with the list.
First of all, this initiative is in no way meant to be a replacement for Micahs's ultimate plan or to steal his thunder. This is only meant as a stop-gap until a proper archive may be established.
Truth  be told, I work at a University and find myself with about 10 days of free time until the next semester begins.
I have spent 20 years, thousands of dollars, and thousands of hours tracking down my KLF catalog. It has been a ton of fun and the whole experience has added to my life. However, I personally feel that many KLF collectors have in the past refrained from sharing their rarities online because they don't wish to diminish the monetary value of their items; cold be wrong, but just a feeling.
In these tough economic times, it's more important than ever for us to stick together and share our resources, even if it just is "art" or "entertainment" (to me the two are interchangeable, I'm sure I'll get a ton of shit for that statement).
So, for each any every day I am on break until I return to work I will share one KLF item with the list online each and every day. Some things will be very rare, some will be more mainstream, but I intend to concentrate on vinyl only releases at initially. The plan is to use the tech at my disposal in my "Lime Room Studio" (well, my office is painted lime). I will be the first to admit I'm not a skilled audio engineer and don't have the best gear, but what I do have is:

Macbook Pro 2.4 duo core processor running OS X Lion with 4 GB of Ram
Audacity 1.3.13 beta with several versions Chris's Compressor plugin
ArtCessories USB Phono Plus v2 preamp 16 bit, 44.1 KHz output, can do 48 KHz, but what's the point? Would love a 24 bit 96 KHz preamp for better archiving and editing but can't afford the $400 right now
Sony PS-FL7 II Linear tracking drawer mounting turntable from the mid-1980s with a high quality, lightly used cartridge
Plextor PX-B31OU Blu-Ray/DVD/CD drawer USB 2 burner/drive
VMWare Fusion 3 running Windows XP SP3 allowing me to run the latest DBPowerramp and plugins
Latest iTunes
Various software to encode DVD audio to other audio formats

I usually like to rip the vinyl to my hard drive via my preamp and Audacity. I then optimize the volume without clipping and apply a light amount of compression to make the recording sound a little more modern (the linear tracking turntable actually helps with this as the linear tracking gives vinyl a bit more of a CD sound). I clean my records first using an old-school Zerostat anti-static gun then use the 80s Discwasher system and dry. I clean the needle with the Discwasher system before every spin.
I've noticed that vinyl quality counts more than anything, but I feel the antistatic and cleaning are important. i don't try to remove clicks or pops because this requires a 24 bit/96 KHz preamp to do without destroying the underlying sound quality.
HOWEVER, I always keep the original rip before compressing/optimizing volume and am able to convert into any audio format via DBpoweramp and iTunes. If at any time anyone wants an unaltered file in any audio format please email me at danthutchins@gmail.com and I'll do my best to provide what you want.
There are only two restrictions I place on my sharing:
1. I won't share it if it's still in print (US only I realize)
2. I will not share any PVC exclusives. Like him or not, PVC has uncovered virtually every single unreleased KLF item, went to a great deal of effort to do so, spent much time, money and effort to restore the sound, and then used the proceeds to fund fan-oriented activities; and he's done these things sincerely from the heart without making a penny of profit. He's carved-out a special place amongst the KLF community, has been an excellent friend to me since 1996, and I feel he deserves special consideration. Truth be told I would buy every single T-Shirt he releases if I had the money, but my financial situation isn't what it was two years ago so I just concentrate on his audio releases.
Yesterday I released the alleged "Love Trance"
This morning I released a CD quality promo rip of the "Waiting" soundtrack
To kick-off KLF sharing days I will release another item momentarily.
Dan
